Leafy plants dangle above the entrance of this small neighborhood joint, where the walls are filled with playbills, vinyl records and photos of timeless stars like the Rat Pack. A couple tall tables near the front offer prime views of the Polk-Post intersection, while comfortable wood banquettes line the interior's perimeter. Two TVs over the lone bar flash flicks of the Hitchcock and Marilyn Monroe variety.
Affable bartenders know many of the 30-and-up regulars on a first-name basis--everyone from well-dressed gents in wheelchairs to colorful transvestites. Despite a campy cocktail menu, standards can be hit-or-miss (a dirty martini bites with the right amount of olive juice; a Manhattan diluted with too much grenadine). Pre-made, frozen strawberry margaritas are available at bargain prices, while small bowls of free popcorn line the bar.
