Jade Bar, the new venue at the Hayes Valley-Western Addition-Civic Center intersection that has been threatening to open for months, finally lets people in March 21. The bar took over a space that used to house Alcoholic Anonymous meetings (oh, the irony), and it's owned by the people from neighboring restaurant Indigo. There's a green theme (of course) and a lit waterfall by the front window that cascades 20 feet down into a mini-fishpond. Jade is fairly small, but it makes the most of what it's got – there's a comfy balcony lounge with shag carpet and little ottoman seats, a tall, open front room, and a low-ceilinged basement with a bigger bar. The current plan seems to be to lure in post-work happy-hour drinkers with $2 specials, post-symphony sorts with Asian-themed small-plate snacks, and post-dinner diners from Hayes Valley with specialty cocktails. |
